Our eye examinations are a comprehensive evaluation of the health and function of your eyes. The examination involves several steps and tests to assess various aspects of your vision and eye health:
The first step in an eye examination is discussing any symptoms that you may have with your vision and taking your medical history. We will ask about any existing eye conditions, general health issues, medications, and family history of eye diseases. This information helps us understand your specific needs and potential risk factors. We are also interested in your working environment and any hobbies that you may have so that we can find the best visual correction for you.
A vision check is performed to check how well you can see, both for distance and near vision. We will measure your current glasses (if you have any) and check your vision with them to assess how well they are working. If you are a driver, we will also check that you can read a number plate at the required distance using our 'simulated number plate test'. With our modern testing equipment, we will accurately determine your spectacle prescription and issue a copy of this for you at the end of the test.
Simple tests will determine how your eye muscles work and to assess how well your eyes work together.
We will examine your eyes thoroughly to determine their health. This includes looking at the front structures of the eye including the eyelids, eyelashes, cornea, iris and lens. We will then proceed to look at the back of the eye including looking at the nerves inside the eyes, the blood vessels, the macula and the retina. We will assess your eye appearance for various conditions such as Cataracts, Glaucoma and Macula Degeneration.
Eye pressure is measured to help look for glaucoma. Our modern equipment means that we do not use the 'puffer test' but have a much gentler method to check the pressure. Results are instant.
We may check your visual fields. This determines what your peripheral vision is like to ensure that you have no 'blind spots'. It is useful to help detect glaucoma as well as other general conditions. This is a short test.

Once all necessary tests have been done, we will discuss the findings in full. This includes what recommendations we have for glasses and/or contact lenses, the health of your eye and any further tests that may be recommended for identified eye health conditions.
